Green Cemeteries
There are two groups providing direction on green cemeteries – The Green Burial Council (GBC) and Natural End™ Network (NEN). The Green Burial Council certifies four categories of cemeteries: Hybrid Burial Grounds, Low-Impact Burial Grounds, Natural Burial Grounds and Conservation Burial Grounds. The Natural End™ Network lists funeral directors and cemeteries who sign pledges to provide basic natural services to families.
No Approved Green Cemeteries in Massachusetts
The Green Burial Council is building a network of approved providers who are committed to reducing toxins, waste, and carbon emissions. Ask your local cemetery to explore GBC approval.
